About the event
As the landscape of country music has become increasingly diverse, Keegan Jacko has emerged as one of the new faces that is breaking the mold. The 27-year-old performer was born in Little Current, Ontario to a Native Canadian mother and a Mexican American father. He started his life living on a reservation as a member of the Ojibwae Indian tribe before moving to Lansing, Michigan where he spent most of his life.
Unlike a lot of artists, Keegan’s career began as a professional athlete in the world of competitive skating. By the age of 16, he held multiple sponsorships and was competing against top athletes from around the world. Sadly, a severe leg injury while performing a mega-ramp stunt forced Keegan into early retirement at just 21 years old. Little did he know this devastating injury was opening a door for his future music career.
With time to spare while nursing his leg injury at home, Keegan picked up a guitar for the first time and began teaching himself to play. It didn’t take him long to realize this was his true calling, and he began pouring all his passion and drive he once reserved for skating into writing, playing, and performing music. In less than a year, he was gigging full time and was signed to his first label deal with Day 6 Records. In 2018, he released his first single “Night Lights” which debuted on country radio.
In 2020, Keegan moved to Nashville to be closer to the country music scene. With the music industry mostly sidelined due to the Covid-19 pandemic, he focused on writing and performing in downtown Nashville bars and Honky Tonks to limited capacity crowds. It was in these intimate shows and Writer’s Rooms where he found his voice and discovered the kind of artist he wanted to be. After much hard work and dedication, Keegan released his first independent single “Drink About Me” earlier this year and has been working on an EP album scheduled to drop this fall. Keegan Jacko has now become a familiar face and name in Nashville and throughout the country music scene and is currently traveling and performing at venues and festivals across the country.
